Rodents

Rodents in Northwest Florida

Rats and mice look for warm, safe places to nest, and homes in Northwest Florida offer plenty of them. Rodents chew wiring, contaminate food and multiply quickly, so it pays to act at the first sign.

Common Rodents in Northwest Florida

• Roof rats: sleek climbers that travel along trees, fences and power lines and nest in attics.
• Norway rats: heavy, burrowing rats that nest under foundations, sheds and woodpiles.
• House mice: small rodents that squeeze through gaps the size of a dime and nest in walls and cabinets.

Signs and Causes

Droppings, gnaw marks, scratching in the walls or attic at night, and greasy rub marks along baseboards are the most common signs of rodents.
